Is ASEAN a free trade area?
ASEAN, or the Association of South East Asian Nations, established the ASEAN Free Trade Area (AFTA) in 1992, with the goal of promoting economic integration and cooperation among its members. AFTA officially started in 2002 and aims to reduce tariffs and eliminate non-tariff barriers, with a target of achieving an average tariff level of 0% to 5% by 2015 for all member countries.
